LONDON:A man was charged Monday in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania of running a scheme to send Viagra to the man, allegedly the wife of a man charged with receiving and using counterfeit Viagra.
A Pennsylvania court heard a case in which the victim, who is his wife, received and used counterfeit Viagra, some of which had not been approved by the FDA for use in the United States. The victim, who was a friend and sex addict, said that while she was receiving the counterfeit medication, she noticed that some of it was actually from the real product, Viagra. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. DeSchmitz.
“The defendant’s scheme was not a normal scheme that would have provided women with the benefit of the drugs,” DeSchmitz said. “It was a scam.”
DeSchmitz said the victim, who is being investigated for another alleged scam, received and used a fake prescription medication, which was shipped from India, and then sent by a different supplier to the woman. The victim, who is a woman, was then given fake Viagra, which had not been approved by the FDA, according to the complaint.
In a statement to Bloomberg, DeSchmitz said, “A common practice of consumers may buy counterfeit Viagra for their own personal use without consulting a doctor.”
DeSchmitz said that when a person uses Viagra without consulting a doctor, the drug may have no effect in the man’s body. The victim may have received the wrong medication, for example, by using another person’s product to get the wrong dose of the medicine, he said. The victim may also have used the medicine to increase the time she took the medication, he said.

“It appears that the victim received a fake medication from India and then sent a shipment through a different supplier to the victim,” DeSchmitz said. “We are committed to providing the most reliable and effective way to address any concerns you may have.”
DeSchmitz said that the victim may have had a prescription for Viagra from her doctor, who may have taken the drug with her. According to DeSchmitz, the man could not identify the prescription from which the victim received Viagra.

“The victim received a legitimate prescription for Viagra from India and then sent it by email to the woman. She received the prescription for the real Viagra that she had received. She received the prescription for the counterfeit Viagra and the woman returned the prescription, but did not see the prescription,” DeSchmitz said. “The victim then used a counterfeit prescription medication to send the real medication to the man’s wife and then sent the fake medication by email to the woman.”
DeSchmitz said that the victim was not aware of the prescription from the Indian physician, who was also the owner of the counterfeit medication. He said that if the victim had purchased the fake medication, he would not have sent it through the mail.
DeSchmitz said that the victim received Viagra from the pharmacy she had purchased from her friend, who was in contact with the victim, and then sent the medication through a different supplier to her. “The victim did not receive the medication through the mail,” he said.
